The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Qamar Javed Bajwa, believes that the army is neither obstructing media freedom nor engaging in harassment of journalists.
He made these remarks at a special event of the Washington-based think tank community held at the residence of Pakistan"s ambassador to the US on Wednesday.
Responding to a question, the COAS claimed that the country"s army was not involved in any unfortunate incident that took place in connection with the harassment of journalists.

In addition, he also discussed the bilateral relations between the US and Pakistan and emphasized that both sides should strengthen their economic and trade relations. In addition, he also expressed concern about the country"s faltering economy.
He further asserted that Pakistan"s diplomacy is no longer dependent on any other country and its ties with global partners remain impartial. In this context, he called for the development of good relations with all countries, including China and the USA.

While discussing the Kashmir issue, he said that the Modi government"s August 2019 decision had affected the situation negatively, adding that Pakistan had always sought to resolve the issue to the benefit of both countries.
He further advised the global community to engage with the Taliban government in Afghanistan and stressed that all stakeholders must come together to overcome the challenges.
