Thar Coal Mines to be Connected to Railway Network

Description:

Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has directed the relevant authorities to connect the Thar coal mines to the national railway network by March 2023.

He issued these directives while presiding over a meeting in this regard on Wednesday.

The federal and Sindh governments will work collaboratively on the project. The Prime Minister signed an MoU with Sinch Chief Minister (CM), Syed Murad Ali Shah in this regard.

The Prime Minister disclosed that the project will ensure availability of Thar coal to local industries, including power plants in Jamsoro and Port Qasim, and will be used instead of imported coal, saving over $2 billion annually.

He directed the authorities concerned to ensure timely completion of the project, with a deadline of March 2023.

He stressed the importance of speedy implementation of development projects, saying that the previous government had caused irreversible loss to the country in the last four years by stalling ongoing projects and that the present government was trying to reverse it.

The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers, Ishaq Dar, Khurram Dastgir and Ahsan Iqbal, Special Assistants to Prime Minister, Jahanzeb Khan, Zafaruddin Mahmood and other senior officials. CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah while Federal Minister for Railways, Khawaja Saad Rafiq joined the meeting virtually.
