Government emphasises the digital revolution

Description:

The government"s top objective, according to Minister of Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal, is to promote the information technology sector.

The minister stated during a Tuesday event that since the digital revolution had created equal chances for everyone, the government was paying special attention to the industry in order to maximise benefits.

Iqbal claimed that because of greater governmental intervention, Pakistan had already made significant advancements in the IT sector. "Our administration chose to centralise the telecom sector, which reinvented the industry and created thousands of jobs," he continued.

"We also awarded licences for 3G and 4G spectrums that have been frozen for more than eight years," the company said.

The minister claimed that by giving one million laptops to the young, the PML-N government helped Pakistan become the third-largest e-lancing nation in the world.

Similar to this, fibre optic cable was installed all over Pakistan as part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and in 2017–18, the previous administration introduced the Digital Pakistan initiative. The policy was, he continued, disrupted by political upheaval.

The planning minister claimed that while the whole federal budget allocation was Rs 1,000 billion in 2018, it was just Rs 550 billion when he returned to the ministry in 2022.

Despite the need for ongoing projects being over Rs2,000 billion, the minister claimed that due to budgetary restrictions, the allotment for the current fiscal year was only set at Rs700 billion.

"A country with no political stability and prime ministers and other ministers facing court cases every other day cannot progress or move forward," he said.

Furthermore, he claimed that corruption in India and Bangladesh was greater than in Pakistan. Nonetheless, they were moving at a faster pace as a result of political stabilisation and policy continuity.
