Government's Plan: Ban Non-Filers from Traveling Abroad

The federal government is considering a number of measures to strengthen tax compliance for those who have not filed returns, including a ban on foreign travel.
According to the sources, currently the legal remedies for people who decide to remain non filer based on the notification include deactivation of mobile phone SIM cards and disconnection of electronic connections.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) issued an Income Tax Order (ITGO) in April to ban the mobile SIM cards of more than 0.5 million people who are not on the list of active taxpayers. . but they are required to file an income tax return for the 2023 tax year.
To increase the cost of non-filers to non-filers and force them to file returns, it is proposed to avoid default exits from the country.
However there are exceptions for persons traveling for Umrah, Hajj and minors or students..
