Sindh Launches a New Educational Management System for Government Schools

Description:

Sindh"s Provincial Education Department has launched the Sindh Education Management Information System (SEMIS) to improve school profiling, data collection, and student and teacher planning.

Syed Sardar Ali Shah, the provincial minister of education and culture, emphasised that having all the information needed to make decisions on public schools available with just a click will facilitate decision-making.

He continued by saying that the SEMIS makes it simple to monitor school profiling, student, teacher, and school data. Real-time access to data about the school buildings, all of the facilities, and even budget expenditure will be made available.

The minister stated that it was to the benefit of the Sindh government that we would maintain this system accessible to the general public so that the data we provided could be independently verified.

The Chief of the Reform Support Unit (RSU), Junaid Sammo, said during the ceremony that the SEMIS will play a significant role in enhancing strategic planning with the annual statistics of roughly 45,000 government schools in the province generally range from student-teacher ratios to budget expenses and various indicators of performance in school at the district and taluka levels.

He clarified that the SEMIS initiative is led by the RSU, a division of the Sindh Department of Education, with financial and technical support coming from the EU and UNICEF.

According to RSU Research Director Aftab Alam, the SEMIS would enable improved monitoring of the Girls" Stipend Program, which is a government initiative that awards stipends to eligible secondary school girls in order to lower dropout rates.
