Description:
The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications" (MoITT) preparations for the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) rules are nearing completion.
A Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a team of information security experts that are in charge of protecting against, detecting, and responding to cybersecurity issues within a company.
According to ministry sources, work on the CERT guidelines began a few months ago, and all stakeholders have been contacted in this respect.
Recent cyberattack on government assets forced the formation of such a team, complete with a clear strategy and set of guidelines to adhere to.
The initial draught of the CERT Rules was shared with all stakeholders, such as the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), as well as the State Bank of Pakistan, according to the statement (SBP). All regulators have submitted their recommendations to the MoITT after consulting with the private industries in their respective zones.
After they are finalised, the rules will be submitted to the Ministry of Law. The rules will be transmitted to the Federal Committee for approval once they have been reviewed by the ministry.
