Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Vice President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), said on Saturday that her party should not be expected to accept "unilateral decisions."
The PML-N leader was referring to the Supreme Court"s earlier-issued short order, in which the top court stopped the Punjab Assembly deputy speaker"s ruling and restrained Hamza Shehbaz from exercising absolute powers and serving only as a "trustee" chief minister until the hearing restored in Islamabad on Monday.
The decision came a day after the PML-N won a dramatic victory over the PTI in the Punjab chief minister"s election, preserving the throne of Punjab after sustaining its closest brush with defeat in the country"s political heartland.
Hamza Shehbaz was declared the winner after Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Dost Mohammad Mazari governed that PML-Q members" votes were not counted in light of the party head"s letter instructing his MPAs to vote for PML-N"s candidate.
After Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Dost Mohammad Mazari decided that PML-Q members" votes were not counted in light of party president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain"s letter urging his MPAs to vote for PML-N"s candidate, Hamza Shehbaz was proclaimed the winner.
Mazari claims that Elahi won 176 votes while Hamza received 179 votes, although this was only true after 10 votes from Elahi"s own party were disregarded, which tipped the balance in Hamza"s favour.
"We shouldn"t be expected to bow our heads in front of such verdicts if the house of justice too experiences intimidation, threats, and insults, constantly reaches certain rulings through the same bench, and consistently overturns its own judgments. I"ve had enough "On Saturday, Maryam posted on her verified Twitter account.
According to the PML-N leader, the current political instability and confusion were caused by a court decision that gave an arbitrary interpretation of the Constitution to disregard the votes of people who cast voluntary ballots.
She stated, alluding to former prime minister Imran Khan, "Today, it is being redefined so that the same ladla (favourite) can profit from it again like he had benefitted from it in the before."
