Imran Khan received a show-cause letter for allegedly intimidating the court in a contempt case

Description:

Imran Khan received a show-cause order from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday in the contempt of court case involving his comments about Additional Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry.

On August 31, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has been invited to personally appear before the bench.

Additionally, it was urged that the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) add extra justices to the bench after Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, who was in charge of the three-judge panel, said that the integrity of the judiciary should not be compromised.

Justice Kayani reportedly referred to Khan"s comments as "inappropriate" and stated that the matter is not just limited to the IHC but also that the message is reaching the highest level, adding that users of social media should be under control.

In addition, he requested that Attorney General Islamabad Jahangir Jadoon read aloud the portion of Khan"s statement in which he made the objectionable remarks.

He also said that a previous prime minister had no need to "threaten" a female judge who was hearing hundreds of cases.

"Imran frequently makes statements that are critical of the judiciary and the ECP. There should be an end to this, "he added.
Judge Zeba Chaudhry of the Additional Sessions, according to Justice Mian Gul, will receive security.

The Islamabad AG wants Imran"s statement to be recorded.

Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was accused of contempt of court for his comments about Additional Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry on Tuesday by Advocate General Islamabad Jahangir Jadoon.

In order to begin contempt of court proceedings against the former prime minister Imran Khan for "threaten[ing]" Additional Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry during his address in Islamabad on Saturday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday assembled a larger bench.

The IHC registrar informed Acting Chief Justice Aamer Farooq that the PTI leader had used "threatening language" in his address against the female extra sessions judge, prompting the high court"s judgement.

According to Jadoon"s petition, if the former premier"s words on video are going to be made public, then his statements on electronic and digital media should also be.

Imran"s words should be permitted to be played in court, it was suggested, because they will be useful in the process of making a decision.
The case will be heard by a three-member bigger bench of the IHC this afternoon (Tuesday).

Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani will preside over the bench, which also consists of Justices Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb and Babar Sattar.

Imran was charged with terrorism.

Imran Khan was arrested in connection with a terrorism investigation after being accused of threatening Zeba Chaudhry, an additional sessions judge in the federal capital of Islamabad, by Islamabad Saddar Magistrate Ali Javed.

After Imran Khan"s speech at the PTI gathering in F9 Park at 10 p.m. on Saturday, a first information report (FIR), a copy of which is accessible with The Express Tribune, was filed with the Margalla police station. The Anti-Terrorism Act"s Section 7 is also included in the FIR.

Before a resident of G-11/2 filed a charge against Imran for uttering hate statements and encouraging rebellion against the army, police, and judiciary, the FIR was filed at another Islamabad police station.

According to the FIR filed by the Margalla police, the PTI leader threatened the additional sessions judge of Islamabad with the intention of terrorising high-ranking police and judiciary officials so that they would be unable to perform their duties and would hold off taking action against the PTI out of fear of Imran.

Last week, the PTI leader made threats against Judge Zeba Chaudhry, Additional Sessions Judge, IG Islamabad, and the DIG of the local court while speaking at a demonstration called for the release of Khan"s chief of staff Shahbaz Gill.

Imran had promised his followers in F-9 Park in Islamabad, "We will find you and we will take action against you."
