PM requests an urgent report on excessive electricity costs

Description:

The public"s complaints over increased power bills were strictly taken into consideration by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday. He then ordered the relevant agencies to provide an urgent report and suggestions on the subject.

The premier decided not to rest until the public complaints about the inflated bills were handled while presiding over an urgent meeting to discuss them.

"Khadim-e-Pakistan must answer to his people in order to address their complaints. I"m dedicated to telling my people the truth, he continued.

Khurram Dastgir, the federal minister for power, Special Assistant to the PM Ahad Cheema, and pertinent senior officers were present.

On Saturday, PM Shehbaz also halted the collection of fixed sales taxes through electricity bills and mandated the creation of a new system.

Additionally, he inquired about whether shops and retailers were being charged an additional sales tax ratio on electricity bills that were not pre-agreed.

During a meeting to review electricity tariffs and set sales tax collection through electricity bills, he gave these instructions.

Prior to making any decisions about the collection of taxes from merchants through the utility bills, PM Shehbaz specifically requested that traders" representatives be included in the consultation process.

The premier also gave the pertinent authorities and ministries concerned the go-ahead to quickly develop an effective method for cutting the power rates for the poor while determining that the government would take all necessary measures to protect the underprivileged segments of society economically.
