As the government issues a warning against violence, PTI changes the location of its rally in Islamabad

Description:

The coalition government threatened the opposition party with "dire repercussions" if peace and order were to be disturbed, so the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) altered the location of its protest that was set to take place on August 13.

The party led by former prime minister Imran Khan, which is currently in control of Punjab, said on Twitter that its anti-government power display would now take place at Lahore"s Hockey Ground rather than the federal capital"s Parade Ground.

Express News reports that Imran Khan, the PTI"s chairman, presided over a meeting of the political committee where the decision was made. The party"s top leaders were present at the huddle.

The party debated whether to hold the gathering in Rawalpindi or Lahore during the conference.

The PTI leader authorised the plan to hold the demonstration in Lahore rather than Islamabad after considering it amid worries that the federal government may pose challenges, according to sources.

The PTI changed its strategy in response to Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah"s declaration, who threatened the PTI with "dire consequences" if its supporters broke law and order or used violence at the party"s rally on August 13 in Islamabad.

At a press conference on Monday, Sanaullah stated that PTI employees had the constitutional right to hold peaceful protests, but he also warned that the government would deal harshly with them "if they use violence or sought to blackmail the administration."

He also reminded the PTI that its leaders and employees had been persecuted during the lengthy march in Islamabad on May 25, warning that this time the consequences will be "severe."
