The wreckage of the ill-fated Army Aviation helicopter that went missing a day earlier has been discovered, and the military"s media wing has affirmed that all six passengers onboard died in the crash.
The wreckage was discovered in the Musa Goth area of Windar in the Lasbela district, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The military"s media wing said on Twitter that "the wreckage of unfortunate hel[icopter] which was on flood rescue efforts was found in Musa Goth, Windar, Lasbela."
"All six officers and soldiers, including Lieutenant General Sarfaraz Ali, embraced shahadat [martyrdom]," the statement continued.
According to preliminary investigations, the accident was caused by bad weather.
Brigadier Amjad Hanif, Brigadier Muhammad Khalid, Major Saeed Ahmed, Major M Talha Manan, and Naik Mudassar Fayyaz embraced martyrdom alongside Commander 12 Corps Lieutenant General Sarfaraz Ali, who was supervising Balochistan"s relief operations in the ill-fated copter.
General Sarfaraz served in military operations during the war on terror and was twice awarded the Tamgha Basalat for valour on the battlefield.
His wife, three sons, and three daughters survive him. The general officer, a Lahore native, was commissioned in the 6 Azad Kashmir Army unit in March 1989 and served in the Pakistan Army for 33 years.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif voiced his concern about the missing helicopter during a phone call with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
During the war on terror, General Sarfaraz participated in military operations and was two times awarded the Tamgha Basalat for great courage on the battlefield.
He is survived by his wife, three sons, and three daughters. The general officer, a Lahore native, joined the Pakistan Army in March 1989 and served in the 6 Azad Kashmir Army unit for 33 years.
Earlier, during a phone call with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his concern about the missing helicopter.
Lt Gen Ali was described by him as a "outstanding professional" and a "wonderful human being."
The prime minister also expressed deep sadness over the incident and prayed for the safe recovery of the "brave sons of the soil."
The ISPR said in a statement on Monday that up to six people were missing after the Army Aviation copter lost contact with air traffic control (ATC)
