Description:
According to Syed Khursheed Shah, the federal minister of water resources, the agricultural sector has seen a 20 percent reduction in production this year as a result of a water deficit.
On Thursday, the minister told an audience in Islamabad that the agriculture industry was suffering from a water deficit of up to 60%.
Over 9,000 gallons of water were once available each person in Pakistan. However, because there has been no work done on water reservoirs, the water reserves have drastically decreased. To make matters worse, he noted, there has been little work done to preserve subsurface water reserves.
He expressed concern over the population growth, claiming that Pakistan"s population was increasing quickly and would soon surpass 300 million, causing more water problems. The country must build rainwater reservoirs in Sindh and Balochistan to prevent a future water crisis.
He stated that doing so would also defend subsurface water storage facilities.
"Population increase is causing agricultural lands to be turned into residential colonies. However, the nation can become self-sufficient and cut back on imports by paying close attention to agriculture, the official said.
By apprehending the mafia responsible for deforestation, according to Shah, the government must actively preserve the environment.
He stated that in order to prevent any crises, the administration would take into account the expert recommendations regarding water usage.
