Description:
While the federal government has imposed a restriction on a variety of non-essential and luxury commodities in order to reduce the nationwide import bill, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has also submitted its suggestions to reduce the national import bill.
According to a recent letter from HEC"s Executive Director (ED), Dr. Shaista Sohail, to all Vice-Chancellors and University administrators of public and private universities, the HEC has advocated increasing consumption of locally created traditional drinks such as "Lassi" and "Sattu."
It will create jobs and provide cash for those participating in the firm, according to the letter.
The HEC has also advocated promoting tea production at the municipal level. It will greatly reduce the national import bill"s expenditure on tea.
Furthermore, the HEC has proposed lowering the import of fossil fuels, as well as encouraging research into other energy as a replacement for the importing fossil fuel used in motorbikes, cars, buses, and trains.
Finally, the commission has proposed limiting edible oil imports, emphasising the importance of conducting investigations in local cooking oils and their promotion to replace imported edible oil.
