According to the Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), establishing a cannabis policy may earn $8 billion in income in four years.
He made the remarks during a session of the Standing Committee on Science and Technology, which was chaired by Senator Shafiq Tarin.
The committee addressed how adopting a cannabis policy could generate $2 billion in income in a matter of months.
Shibli Faraz, Minister of Science and Technology, stated that Pakistan has never had a cannabis policy, but given the current economic situation, it is time for Pakistan to create cash through the legal sale of the drug.
He stated that the MoST had prepared a cannabis policy, but that the Cabinet had not authorised it. It was created after meetings with numerous ministries and was also within the parameters of international institutions, according to Faraz.

He added that the MoST had created a cannabis policy, but that it had not been approved by the Cabinet. According to Faraz, it was formed following consultations with many ministries and was also within the norms of international institutions.
The Secretary of State for Science and Technology released policy information, stating that an anti-drug strategy will be followed and that the ministry will issue regular permits to allow cannabis growth. Furthermore, the MoST will first grant 100 cannabis growing licences.
