Heavy Showers Cause Flight Cancellations at Karachi Airport

Eight aircraft were delayed and ten flights were cancelled at Karachi"s Jinnah International Airport as a result of the city"s nonstop severe downpours since Sunday morning.

The PIA aircraft PK-306, PK-341, PK-349, and PK-370 were set to leave Karachi but were delayed due to the precipitation, according to the Civil Aviation Authority"s (CAA) spokeswoman.

The statement stated that all domestic and international flights planned to depart from Jinnah International Airport were postponed or cancelled, along with a number of additional flights that were headed abroad.

Rain Vacation

Monday has been designated a holiday in Hyderabad and Karachi by the government of Sindh.

According to Sharjeel Inam Memon, the provincial minister for information, the decision to declare a public holiday was decided in light of the widespread heavy rainstorms that had been falling since 5 a.m. on Sunday in Hyderabad and Karachi.

Additionally, he gave the private sector the order to close its offices and factories today.

Karachi Rainfall Intensity

Quaidabad received the greatest rainfall in Karachi, measuring 86.5 mm, according to statistics on rainfall provided on Sunday by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). Following this, there was 62 mm of rain in Saddar and Gulshan-e-Hadeed and 54 mm in Keamari and Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Base Masroor.

Rainfall totals were as follows: 49.5 mm in Orangi Town, 44.3 mm in Defence Housing Authority (DHA), 39 mm in North Karachi, 36.4 mm in Korangi, 36 mm in Nazimabad, 35.5 mm at PAF Base Faisal, and 33.7 mm in Saadi Town.

Gadap Town received 29.2 mm of rain, Gulshan-e-Maymar received 28.4 mm, Old Airport received 27 mm, and Jinnah Terminal received 26.4 mm.
