Description:
The cost of solar in Pakistan has increased by Rs. 8/Watt, just day before the call for the 2024-25 state budget.Solar panel prices have risen as consumers await new tariffs for the sector in the new budget.
The federal government is expected to release its new budget on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.From June 2024, the price of a 588W plate is Rs. 4,000-5,000, 180W panel costs Rs. 1,440. In particular, small panels in the 180-280W range are seeing the highest rate increases this month.
Additionally, the federal government is working on major changes to net metering laws to force the federal government to shut down the system and replace it with a larger metering system to avoid using solar power and encourage consumers to come back to an unsustainable system.Customers fear they may be forced to switch to more expensive electricity.
Last week, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that he had ordered an end to solar metering in Pakistan and offered discounts to consumers/households who installed solar systems. The energy department denied these reports.
