Inauguration of Punjab's First-Ever Gynae Training Center

Description:

On Monday, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, the health minister for Punjab, and Dr. Palitha Mahipala, the WHO country director, opened the first gynaecological training facility in the province.

In addition to Dr. Tayyaba Wasim, Dr. Rubina Sohail, Dr. Tayyaba Afzal, the Principal of the Services Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS), Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal, and other SHL faculty members, the training centre was officially established in the gynaecology department of Services Hospital Lahore (SHL).

At the opening ceremony, Drs. Wasim and Sohail presented a briefing on the specifics of the training centre.

In mother and child hospitals in Punjab, Dr. Rashid explained, the training centre will offer doctors and midwives improved training.

"We are the signatories to the Sustainable Development Goals on lowering maternal and infant mortality rates. The opening of a distinctive training facility is unquestionably a historic development, she added.

She stated that Punjab is building mother and child hospitals in accordance with the former prime minister Imran Khan"s vision, and that the government is taking steps to protect the health of mothers and children in the province.

"Prior to this, no government had given mother and child hospitals any thought. The mother and her child"s lives were in grave danger during the home birth process, she continued.

Over 1,300 basic health units in Punjab are now open 24/7 and furnished with midwives, according to Minister Rashid. Additionally, 480 ambulances specifically designated for the province"s mothers" and kids" health are now available.

She said that the WHO has always contributed to enhancing public health and that quick action is required to protect the health of the mother and child given the expanding population.

Minister Yasmin thanked Dr. Mahipala for his visit as she wrapped up.

On this occasion, Dr. Palitha said that WHO has always collaborated with Punjab to improve the quality of healthcare provided to the public and that the new gynaecology training facility would be crucial in preparing medical professionals to work in government hospitals.
