Description:
Swings shares a disturbing clip from Alia Bhatt"s film in which she was coerced into prostitution while advertising a men"s offer.
After posting an impending promotion for guys on social media, a local cafe in Karachi has sparked outrage.
It all started when Swings used a promotional gimmick to upload an edited clip from Alia Bhatt"s upcoming film, Gangubai Kathiawadi. Bhatt was pushed into prostitution after being dumped in Kamathipura in the said scene in Sanjay Leela Bhansali"s movie, and she tries to terribly attract her first patron.
"What are you waiting for, Aja na Raja?" the article stated. "Swings is addressing all Rajas out there. On Men"s Monday, Ajao is offering a 25% discount ""Swings!" they exclaim.
Many people reacted to social media shortly after the post went up to criticise the restaurant for its insulting and callous approach to sexual abuse. "Is it ajaa na raja or ajaa na raja? What exactly is this? It encourages women to be sexually abused and mocks women who are compelled to work as prostitutes. "Just wondering if you have any ladies working in your restaurant," YouTuber Daniyal Sheikh wrote, while actress Sara Sarfaraz added, "Try to be responsible." Are they at ease?"
Many others flocked to Instagram and Facebook to express their displeasure with the image, leaving venomous remarks. The worst, though, was yet to come.
Swings issued a timid apology in response to the outrage, but has yet to remove the original message. The diner clarified by sharing a newspaper article with Bhatt"s image as the primary image, along with the heading, Aray logon, itna dil pe kyun lelia? (Why the uproar?)"
The following was written in the caption of the abovementioned post: "It"s just a thought. We didn"t aim to offend anyone"s feelings. The film and this article are both based on a notion. We"re open to all, like before, and will serve you with the same affection we"ve always shown."
The clarification generated even more ire, with many criticising Swings for having a difficult marketing team and making a tone-deaf statement.
Gangubai Kathiawadi - and this particular scene - illustrates the plight of women pushed into prostitution, therefore the fury is well-deserved. The uproar may have been avoided if the film"s "idea" had been unclear. Bhatt portrays the matriarch of Kamatipura, who is traumatised and battered as a result of this scene.
