Description:
Mehwish Hayat"s debut appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is finally here! As Kamala Khan"s (Iman Vellani) great-grandmother Aisha, the acclaimed Pakistani actor made her Marvel debut in Ms. Marvel. What else? In season three of the show, Mehwish and Nimra Bucha may be seen interacting on-screen.
In the aforementioned episode, Mehwish plays Aisha, who has acquired the magical bangle that eventually grants Kamala her powers. As soon as Aisha puts the bangles on, she detects gaining the abilities. Samina Ahmed"s role as Kamala"s Nani and Nimra"s as Kamran"s mother, Najma, were first introduced to us in episode two.
Along with her Pakistani co-stars, Nimra remained silent throughout Ms. Marvel"s promotion but previously opened up to the BBC in an interview about the programme. Nimra also spoke extensively about her experience working on a Marvel production and the subject of "representation" and the consequences of it, leaving some things open-ended for audiences to sort out for themselves.
In episode two, the 16-year-old is shown on camera talking to her Nani (Ahmed), who has to tell her to move the phone further away from her face—a situation that is distinctly desi and to which we can all relate.
Then Nani queries Kamala over the presents she sent for her. A bewildered Kamala then asks about the bracelet she is holding in her hand—the one that will turn her into Ms. Marvel. Kamala asks Nani about the history of the alleged golden bracelet because she is perplexed by the "strange" things it is causing her to do. Ahmed says in the video, "It belonged to my mum, Aisha. "The person who vanishes my great-grandmother Aisha, during the partition?" Kamala queries.
We are eager to see how the plot develops going forward.
