According to production and distribution business Studiocanal, a feature film on the late British singer Amy Winehouse is in development. Fifty Shades of Grey filmmaker Sam Taylor-Johnson will direct the biopic.
The movie, called Back to Black, will focus on the six-time Grammy Award winner"s life and songs. She passed away on July 23, 2011, at her home in North London due to alcohol poisoning. Winehouse was 27 years old when she her away. She had battled alcohol and drug addiction for much of her career.
Back to Black is being produced by Studiocanal. The feature film about Amy Winehouse"s life and music is progressing, according to Studiocanal, which also noted that a story for the movie had been produced. Sam Taylor-Johnson has been brought on board to direct. The Amy Winehouse estate is fully supporting the production of Back to Black.
The first Fifty Shades of Grey movie, which was adapted from the best-selling book trilogy, the drama A Million Little Pieces, as well as episodes of the television shows Gypsy and Solos, were all directed by British filmmaker Taylor-Johnson.
Winehouse, who was regarded as one of the most accomplished singers of her generation and had successes like Rehab and Back to Black, passed away suddenly, shocking the music industry.
The most recent documentary about her, which is spoken by her mother and will air on the BBC in Britain in 2021 to celebrate ten years since the singer"s passing, has been made.
Although the singer"s father Mitch Winehouse at the time criticised the documentary and said the relatives had disassociated itself from the work, director Asif Kapadia"s 2015 film AMY about Winehouse won him an Oscar.
According to the trade website Deadline, casting for the actor who would play Winehouse in the movie will begin in the coming weeks.
