Nooh Dastgir Butt, a weightlifter from Pakistan, has his sights set on the 2024 Olympics in Paris after winning gold for his nation in the current Commonwealth Games.
Nooh competed for Pakistan in the +109kg division and broke the Commonwealth Games records for the weight class late on Wednesday by snatching 173 kg and clean and jerking 232 kg.
Nooh, who spoke to Express from Birmingham, claimed that by helping Pakistan win the gold, he fulfilled his commitment.
Nooh remarked, "Now it"s the government"s duty to step up and encourage weightlifters in Pakistan.
This gold medal will inspire the nation"s aspiring weightlifters, too.
Nooh acknowledged his struggle to overcome hopelessness and dedicated his victory to his family.
"My morale was pretty low two years ago. My father encouraged me to stand up once more. After that, I kept working hard and never looked back."
Nooh also expressed gratitude to the Pakistanis who had cheered him on from abroad.
According to PSB rules, the Pakistan Sports Board has awarded Rs. 50 lakh as Nooh"s prize money.
According to Director General PSB, the government will award a silver medalist at the Commonwealth Games with Rs30 lakh and a bronze medalist with Rs10 lakh.
Additionally, he revealed that the policy is to award Rs 1 crore to the winner of the gold medal in the Olympics.
