Description:
If I had to pick one life skill that is directly relevant to living a good life, it would undoubtedly be mental fortitude. It"s not self-assurance. This is not discipline. It"s not having a lot of money, being happy and fulfilled, or a large group of friends. It is mental fortitude.
Because mental strength is the foundation of everything else, it is the key skill you can cultivate in your life. When you have a strong mind, you can be confident, diligent, social, wealthy, or "successful" in any way you define success.
But what if you don"t have any? Oh boy…
You can be certain... But what if someone does not like you?
You are capable of self-discipline... But what if the shit hits the fan and all of your plans fall apart?
You can have many friends, a great job, and enough money to wipe your a$$ with... But what will you do if you experience anxiety or depression?
All of these are not "what ifs." It is not a question of how you will experience anxiety or depression. It is not a question of whether or not unexpected events will occur. It"s not a concern of whether you can make everyone in the world like you for the rest of your life. Life will always be difficult for you.
Your loved ones will perish. You will lose your job, your friends, and your money. You will keep struggling with internal conflicts such as meaning, insecurity, and helplessness.
Life will eat you up like freaking cereal for breakfast if you"re not mentally strong. It will not even spit you out. It will completely grind you up into small pieces, digest you with acid, and spit you out.
Building mental strength can help you avoid this.
ACCEPT WHAT CAN"T BE CHANGED
You are human, no matter how powerful you are — by any definition of the term. As a person in society, you will face difficulties, unpredictable problems, and tragic loss. It is unavoidable and irreversible. The sooner you realize these realities, the better.
It"s not about being sceptic or pessimistic. You obviously do not want these things to occur to you. No one does. However, it is not worth listening to you. And having a belief you are somehow special enough to be spared the hardships of life is what will keep you unhappy for the rest of your life. Maintain a positive attitude, but never expect things to always be positive.
CHANGE WHATEVER YOU CAN
What remains after you"ve accepted the unchangeable facts of life are the things you could really change. Everything else in your life is under your direct control. Other people cannot be changed. Only you can change yourself.
You always have the option of doing something else. You are making the choice even if you do nothing. Similarly, you always have choices. They may not be the ones you like, but they are still available.
HOW DO YOU GET STARTED BUILDING MENTAL STRENGTH?
Your new superpower will be grit and determination. To begin, you must be willing to change and open your mind to new ideas. It may appear straightforward, but for most people, it is the most difficult stage since it demands you to acknowledge that many of your fundamental beliefs, values, and concepts are incorrect. You must understand this and be willing to make significant changes.
After you"ve opened your mind to new ideas, you"ll need to figure out which aspects of yourself you want to improve. What is it that makes them so bad? What impact do they have on your life? What habits do they have in common? Instead of changing their harmful habits, people typically push themselves to accept them. This will necessitate becoming conscious of your deep-seated worries, insecurities, and anxieties.
When you"ve discovered the parts of your mind that are causing you problems, you need to address them as soon as possible. Doing things that worry you, make you feel uncomfortable, and makes you want to quit are all examples of this. You"ve been fostering negative habits, ideas, and attitudes for years, if not decades, and it"ll take a lifetime to replace them with healthier habits, ideas, and attitudes.
You must address the elements of your mind that are giving you difficulties as quickly as possible once you"ve recognised them. This includes doing things that frighten you, make you feel uneasy, or make you want to quit. You"ve been cultivating bad habits, ideas, and attitude for years, if not decades, and replacing them with healthier choices, ideas, and attitudes will take a lifetime.
This is a process that will last the rest of your life. Mental toughness isn"t something you can achieve. You won"t be able to cross anything off your to-do checklist and declare, "OK, now I have it." Mental toughness is a mental state. It"s the way you think and respond to life"s challenges. Your brain, like your muscles, becomes weak and tight if you don"t exercise them. If you don"t do activities to improve your thinking on a regular basis, it will revert to being weak and squishy.
I mean "change yourself" in the sense of changing your mindset. Change your approach to life and the instances you face.
