Creating a Skilled Workforce is an Urgent Need

According to a proverb, "Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime; give a guy a fish and you feed him for a day."
Teaching someone how to accomplish something for themselves is more valuable, especially in these times of unparalleled economic instability.
The minimum wage in Pakistan was raised to PKR 25,000 in April, and the government expects the corporate sector to follow suit.
There is a need to do more because even such a commendable initiative does not fully provide a sustainable proposition from which people can benefit in the long run.
Given the complexity of technological advancement in every field, technical/vocational training is becoming increasingly important around the world.
Skill-based training is critical, as evidenced by the intro of a skill-based curriculum in the Nordic countries and emphasised in Singapore"s educational system.
Meanwhile, certain Pakistani organisations have launched a strategic solution to ensure a thriving future for the next generation.
Hutchison Ports Pakistan, the country"s first deep-water container terminal designed for mega-ships, recently recognised this need and capitalised on it by developing a training programme in collaboration with The Hunar Foundation.
The collaboration aims to provide young aspirants with specialised skills in engineering, mechatronics, and robotics in order to improve their livelihoods.
Hutchison Ports Pakistan is fully helping to fund young students for vocational training, according to a video shared on its social media platform.
"Such programmes can result in the development of the national economy with more and more trained manpower coming into the job market," one of the training candidates said.
The program"s goal is to help each individual become self-sufficient and, as a result, earn food for their families.
The programme, titled "Teach for Tomorrow," will run from July to December 2022 and is part of Hutchison Ports" global Dock School initiative.
In this respect, Hutchison Ports Pakistan recently held a selected batch of Hunar Foundation students. They were given a tour of the port and got to see how it works.
Following the completion of this training programme, Hutchison Ports Pakistan has announced internship opportunities in its Engineering department for the participants, demonstrating their contribution to the technical development of the next generation.
All of these efforts are aimed at giving the youth something tangible to offer that will result in their individual development within the organisation, regardless of where they work.
This initiative clearly sets an example for authorities, the corporate sector, and other related stakeholders to invest in alternatives that can have a long-term positive impact on our economy.
Skill development can assist a large portion of Pakistan"s population in meeting the needs of their families, which they are frequently denied.
Great companies build sustainable economies, and good companies are constructed on the shoulders of highly trained employees.
