Description:
Despite the country"s economic and political upheaval, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has given Sri Lanka Cricket Board permission to host the Asia Cup. The T20 format will be used, and the event will start on August 27.
On August 28, Pakistan and India will square off after recently competing in the T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
The COVID-19 pandemic forced two postponements of the Asia Cup, which was last contested in 2018, first to 2021 and then to 2022. It was initially slated to take part in Sri Lanka in 2020.
There will be a total of six teams competing against one another, with the championship game set for September 11. These teams include Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and one of the qualifiers.
Reports state that qualifiers will start on August 21 and include competition from the UAE, Nepal, Oman, Hong Kong, and other nations. India won the previous tournament, defeating Bangladesh in the championship match by a margin of three wickets.
It is important to note that Sri Lanka"s ability to serve as the Asia Cup host nation was in doubt due to the island nation"s challenging circumstances, but the neighbouring nations have continued to have faith in the crisis-ridden nation.
