Description:
The organisers of the West Indies (CWI) and Caribbean Premier Competition (CPL) are about to reveal a new 60-ball league that will take place from August 30 to September 30 this year.
The CPL revealed via social media that the 10th season would kick off with a brand-new T10-style league in which six men"s teams and three women"s teams will contend in a 60-balls-a-side competition dubbed the 6ixty with "radical new rules."
Chris Gayle has also been designated the brand ambassador for the future 6ixty by the West Indian Cricket Board, albeit it is not yet known if any West Indian players will take part in this format.
The new league aims to thrill cricket fans and occasionally force them to evaluate things from a new angle, much like what is now happening in golf, according to Pete Russell, CEO of CPL.
"The primary objective is to arouse interest and excitement. Like what"s happening with golf right now, sometimes you have to view things from a different perspective. It concerns a whole different audience. We strongly target the younger generation.
The CEO added that although they had planned to finish four projects annually, fans might want to see three of them in the Caribbean and one elsewhere.
"Our target is four events year, and that"s where we"ll begin. Perhaps you should have three in the Caribbean and one elsewhere. We"d like to perform one overseas; a trip on the Sixty to Vegas would be the stuff of dreams, he continued.
